Serving as captains and the team’s leaders on and off the field for the upcoming season will be Taylor Coleman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.), Aaron Melton (Castle Rock, Colo.), Eric Saubert (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Caz Zyks (Carpentersville, Ill.).”These four men are special young men who exemplify what Drake football is all about. Our players and coaches have chosen well in selecting Aaron, Caz, Eric and Taylor as their captains,” said Fox.Coleman, a fifth-year senior linebacker, is a two-time CoSIDA All-District selection and was named 2014 PFL Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He also garnered All-PFL honorable mention honors in 2014.”Taylor brings a passion to succeed in all he does, on and off the field. The 2014 PFL Scholar-Athlete of the Year and three-time Drake community service captain will bring a relentless passion to his leadership position and a genuine concern for his teammates that will impact our team in a significant way this fall,” said Fox.Melton, a fifth-year senior, anchors the offensive line and was a 2015 preseason All-PFL selection before missing nearly the entire season due to an injury in the season-opener against William Jewell. He received second-team All-PFL honors in 2014.”Aaron had his season cut short last year with an injury on the very first play of the 2015 campaign. That didn’t stop Aaron from leading, however. In a cast on the sideline, Aaron was often encouraging and challenging guys last fall. That ability to lead in tough circumstances will serve as well as we seek to go places Drake football has never been before,” said Fox.Saubert, a fifth-year senior tight end, was named to the FCS ADA All-America team and also garnered third team All-America honors by the Associated Press and STATS FCS. He led the team with 48 receptions, 580 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.”What a lot of people know about Eric is that he was selected by three different organizations as an All-American tight end in 2015. But what many people donot know about Eric is how much he cares for his teammates and the incredible work ethic he possesses. He will be a terrific leader for us,” said Fox.Zykes is a two-year starter in the secondary and was one of the team’s top tacklers last year with 45 total stops.”Caz, a three-time community service captain, loves football, loves to compete and loves his teammates. His infectious enthusiasm and his sincere interest in his teammates will play a significant part in the upcoming season. Caz is the second captain in consecutive years to come from Jacobs High School in Algonquin, Ill.,” said Fox.The four captains will lead the Bulldogs into the 2016 season on Sept. 3 when they host Quincy at 6 p.m. The home opener is one of six home contests at Drake Stadium in 2016.
