Shell provides lunch, $250,000 cheque to Fort St. John Salvation Army

first_imgSocial Performance Advisor Bryant Bird says the organization is doing its own week of caring, and will also be spending time in Dawson Creek and Chetwynd. “We’re here to help out and prepare lunch for the Salvation Army. We’ve just had a team helping out in the food bank,” he explains. “We’re going to be presenting a cheque to the Salvation Army for $250,000 which is for their new Light of the North transition home, and then we’re also presenting our top up cheque to the United Way. Our year end total for 2013 is just over $110,000 that we’ve helped raise for the United Way.”Niki Hedges of United Way Northern B.C. says she was contacted by Shell to take part in Days of Caring, and is appreciative of their efforts to help out in the community.- Advertisement -“Days of Caring is bringing groups of people together from one business or corporation to get a job done for not for profit organizations. Shell Canada got in touch with me looking for a project and I offered a few ideas and they said they would love to come on board and help with the Salvation Army,” she says. “It’s a great pleasure to work with such a keen group. Shell Canada contributes a lot on Days of Caring and many other ways giving back to the community.”As for the Light of the North, the finishing touches are being put on the renovation to the Cedar Lodge Motor Inn. The project is expected to top out at $4.4 million, with $1.4 raised by the local Salvation Army, and the rest coming from the provincial government. Once completed, there will be ten more beds for the city’s homeless, as well as another 34 for transitional housing.Advertisementlast_img read more
