Layoffs coming to MercedesBenz US International

first_imgLayoffs coming to Mercedes-Benz U.S. International suppliers are awful for the employees affected, but it doesn’t mean the auto industry is suffering any woes.West Alabama Works‘ Donnie Jones said these layoffs are a result of bidding and contracts and not a contraction in the market. Despite the layoffs, Jones said Tuscaloosa County and its surrounding areas are actually adding jobs.In fact, his biggest concern is making sure there are enough employees available who can do the work.“We don’t have a loss of employment,” Jones said. “We actually have a gain in employment, and there’s a lot of jobs here in the region and across this part of the state in the automotive industry.”Jones said there are more than 50 auto suppliers in and around Vance, and many of those are meeting with high-school students and offering them jobs April 16 and 17 at Worlds of Work 2.0last_img
