A six-wicket haul from returning national off-spinner Yannick Elliott guided Melbourne CC to first-innings honours over two-time champions Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and a semi-final place after their Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) quarter-final match-up at Up Park Camp. Elliott, who three seasons ago suffered a heart attack and made a return at the start of the season, claimed six for 30, as the JDF, chasing Melbourne’s challenging first innings total of 423 for seven declared, were dismissed for 309. National left-arm wrist spinner Dennis Bulli, with a well-composed knock of 118 not out, led the way for the army men, who, in surrendering first, also relinquished the title. Melbourne, batting a second time, ended on 82 for three. “It was a hard-fought game, but I thought we did enough in the first innings. Posting a massive total, 420 in any cricket is a lot of runs, moreso in Senior Cup. “Hats off to John-Ross Campbell, who batted well for his century, as well as Elliot, as it was a very difficult wicket to bowl on.” Resuming on 61 for one with lead batsmen Rashed Outar not out on 12 and opener Joseph Palmer, 21, the JDF started positively by moving to the 100 mark for the loss of no further wicket. However, with the loss of Outar on the same score, the soldiers went on to lose quick wickets, handing the initiative to Melbourne with the score on 131 for eight. Bulli, who hit 11 fours and six sixes, thereafter entered the fray and along with Palmer, they put on a threatening ninth-wicket stand of 180 before the latter was caught for 89 with the score on 301. Melbourne immediately thereafter wrapped up the encounter. “We dropped too much catches in the first innings and it cost us in the end,” stated JDF captain Damion Grey. “To get 400-and-odd is really a tough chase, but I thought Bulli played a gem of innings.” The other quarter-final on the weekend, in the meanwhile, saw St Thomas CA on the back of a nine-wicket match haul from Jamaica fast bowler Keno Wallace, recording a come-from-behind 130 runs win over St Ann CA at Goodyear Oval. St Thomas made 202 and 266 to which St Ann replied with 226 and 112. Wallace claimed five for 18 in the first innings and four for 39 in the second. Difficult wicket

The Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government has been called on to give a definitive date as to when the MICA Redress Scheme will commence for homeowners affected by defective mica blocks. Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal, Charlie McConalogue made the appeal on Wednesday. In June, junior housing minister Damien English has said that the Mica redress scheme will be ready for repair works to begin on homes in autumn 2019. The plans follow the allocation of €20million from the government for grants to cover remediation works to dwellings that have been damaged due to defective concrete blocks. It is estimated that as many as 4,800 dwellings in Donegal and 345 in Mayo are affected by the Mica-defective blocks. “It is disgraceful that homeowners, many of whom have homes crumbling around them, still have no certainty regarding a start date from the government for the Mica redress scheme,” McConalogue said.“In the last budget, €20m was set aside for the scheme. “A start date was expected to be brought to government by Minister Murphy before Christmas 2018,” he added.“It is massively disrespectful to the plight facing the thousands of people in Donegal affected by Mica, that eight months later we are no clearer on the details of the scheme.“The Minister must provide clarity to the families and give a definitive date so they can begin the remediation process as soon as possible,” concluded Deputy McConalogue.Calls made on Govt for ‘definitive date’ on Mica redress scheme was last modified: July 3rd, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:MICA

Even a $26 million cash infusion from electric utilities and lobbyists wasn’t enough to persuade Florida voters to pass a proposed constitutional amendment on residential solar installations last week. The proposed amendment needed 60% of the vote to win approval, but on election day only about half the voters were in favor, The Miami Herald reported.Florida law currently allows homeowners to own or lease solar panels, but third-party sales and power purchase agreements are not permitted. The controversial proposal sought to “constitutionalize the status quo,” in the words of Florida Supreme Court Justice Barbara Pariente, and was roundly criticized by solar advocates as a way to restrict the growth of solar.Efforts to defeat the proposal were led by a group called Floridians for Solar Choice, which said that the vote was a “David v. Goliath victory.”“We defeated one of the most egregious and underhanded attempts at voter manipulation in this state’s history,” the group’s chairman, Tory Perfetti, said. The measure looked like it was cruising toward easy approval this summer, but in mid-October the newspaper published leaked comments from a utility-supported think tank director who boasted the amendment would “negate” efforts to promote solar energy. Opponents turned up the heat and got help from Elon Musk, Jimmy Buffett, and former Governor Bob Graham, among others, and these efforts helped swing the vote. The Herald said that utilities were expected to turn to the state legislature or Public Service Commission for help in weakening Florida’s net-metering laws and ending tax rebates for solar customers.
Color Dodge Blend Mode Gradient Maps in After EffectsTechnically, gradient map layers don’t exist in After Effects. However, you can mimic the effect with the tinting effects: Tint, Tritone, CC Toner, and Colorama. A gradient map recolors an image by using the gradient you set to replace the grayscale gradient in a black and white image. So, using a gradient like this:Results in this:Now that we can mimic the effect of a gradient map, put these effects on an adjustment layers and you get the ability to apply blend modes, just like in Photoshop! We’ll start out by using the gradient above again and applying it to an adjustment layer. You can get a ton of different looks by changing the blend modes; some work better or more often with others depending on the colors you choose. This first gradient map has a lot of options that actually look pretty interesting:(Click images for larger view) Overlay w/ Adjustment at 50% Darken Blend ModeMultiply Blend Mode Here’s another gradient:This particular combination of colors really only had good results with two of the After Effects blend modes: Screen Blend Mode Add Blend ModeLighten Blend Mode Soft Light Blend Mode Overlay Blend Mode Combining gradient mapping and blend modes can be used to create fun, unique looks in After Effects. In this post, we share a quick way to give your footage unique color grades in Adobe After Effects. One of my favorite ways to add fun looks to photos in Photoshop is to combine gradient maps with blend modes:This particular gradient map combination is a favorite of mine that works well on a lot of images (especially outdoor):As you’ll see below, I added a gradient map to the image and changed the blend mode to “Screen”: Screen Blend ModeSoft Light Blend Mode Here’s another gradient combination:LightenAnd another:Soft LightNow here’s one that uses the tritone filter to add a third color to the mix:OverlayWith the CC Toner effect, you can fine tune your results even more, leaving the highlights and shadows alone to preserve good black and white points, but still adding a tint in those areas:Screen:Using a sepia color scheme gives some good results:Screen:Overlay:You can even recreate the popular “Blockbuster” look:Overlay:Soft Light:Gradients with Colorama in After EffectsFor ultimate control of the gradient, Colorama is the way to go. It’s a little unweildly to use since its gradient tool is radial instead of linear, but you can really fine tune the results or use multiple colors:Soft Light:Color dodge (with the base image adjusted for exposure to compensate):The color dodge effect made the shot too bright, so I dropped a levels filter on the original image to bring down the exposure:Experiment with exposure and contrast adjustments on the original image underneath the adjustment layer, as well as with different opacities on the adjustment layer to really get it looking the way you want it. After Effects does a great job of live-updating the look as you change your colors, so you can even pick a bland mode and fine-tune your colors live for the desired result!
