Print Friendly Version DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University football team has selected four captains for the 2016 season, third-year head coach Rick Fox announced Monday, May 9. Serving as captains and the team’s leaders on and off the field for the upcoming season will be Taylor Coleman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.), Aaron Melton (Castle Rock, Colo.), Eric Saubert (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Caz Zyks (Carpentersville, Ill.).”These four men are special young men who exemplify what Drake football is all about. Our players and coaches have chosen well in selecting Aaron, Caz, Eric and Taylor as their captains,” said Fox.Coleman, a fifth-year senior linebacker, is a two-time CoSIDA All-District selection and was named 2014 PFL Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He also garnered All-PFL honorable mention honors in 2014.”Taylor brings a passion to succeed in all he does, on and off the field. The 2014 PFL Scholar-Athlete of the Year and three-time Drake community service captain will bring a relentless passion to his leadership position and a genuine concern for his teammates that will impact our team in a significant way this fall,” said Fox.Melton, a fifth-year senior, anchors the offensive line and was a 2015 preseason All-PFL selection before missing nearly the entire season due to an injury in the season-opener against William Jewell. He received second-team All-PFL honors in 2014.”Aaron had his season cut short last year with an injury on the very first play of the 2015 campaign. That didn’t stop Aaron from leading, however. In a cast on the sideline, Aaron was often encouraging and challenging guys last fall. That ability to lead in tough circumstances will serve as well as we seek to go places Drake football has never been before,” said Fox.Saubert, a fifth-year senior tight end, was named to the FCS ADA All-America team and also garnered third team All-America honors by the Associated Press and STATS FCS. He led the team with 48 receptions, 580 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.”What a lot of people know about Eric is that he was selected by three different organizations as an All-American tight end in 2015. But what many people donot know about Eric is how much he cares for his teammates and the incredible work ethic he possesses. He will be a terrific leader for us,” said Fox.Zykes is a two-year starter in the secondary and was one of the team’s top tacklers last year with 45 total stops.”Caz, a three-time community service captain, loves football, loves to compete and loves his teammates. His infectious enthusiasm and his sincere interest in his teammates will play a significant part in the upcoming season. Caz is the second captain in consecutive years to come from Jacobs High School in Algonquin, Ill.,” said Fox.The four captains will lead the Bulldogs into the 2016 season on Sept. 3 when they host Quincy at 6 p.m. The home opener is one of six home contests at Drake Stadium in 2016.

OAKLAND — The season may have just ended for the A’s, but for vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane and GM David Forst, this is the time when they really earn their pay. After a full day to digest the heartbreak of a 7-2 loss to the Yankees in the AL wild-card game at Yankee Stadium, Beane, Forst, and manager Bob Melvin got together at the Coliseum Friday to sum up the season as a whole and discuss the many decisions that lie ahead for a club that shocked the baseball world by …
This custom After Effects transition simulates the classic look of a slide projector.A quick and easy way to add some interest to transitions between pictures in a video (especially older looking pictures) is to create a “slide projector” effect, complete with sound effects. The analog nostalgia will add interest to your transitions. The effect is actually pretty simple to create in After Effects, and even easier to apply to multiple pictures once you’ve done it the first time.I’ve created a comp at 1920×1080 with a few pictures in it. Your values for the keyframes below may vary depending on your comp’s resolution. One important note – your images need to be slightly larger than the comp. you’re going to be moving them around, so you’ll need a “bleed” on each side.Slide Transition in After EffectsTo start with, add an adjustment layer above your pictures, and add a blur effect to the adjustment layer. I used the Fast Blur for ease, but you can use whichever blur you’d like. Start by adding two keyframes at the default values of the blur. Put the first keyframe 3 frames before the beginning of the second picture (what we’ll call the “transition point”), and the second keyframe 2 frames after the transition point. Both of these keyframes are set to the default value of “0”:Next, 1 frame after the first keyframe, add a new keyframe and set the blur to 15.Now, move to the transition point and increase the blur again to 20.Now, add the Distort > “Transform” effect to the adjustment layer, and add keyframes to “Position” at the default values to the same places you did for the blur.Add a new keyframe one frame after the first, and move the position a little to the left of center. Go easy…small changes make a big difference in this effect. I did it by eye and ended up with a value around 918.I did this by eye to make it a relatively small move:Go one frame forward and add a new keyframe where the position moves about an equal distance to the right of center. I ended up at 1016.It should move about the same distance right of center that it did left of center the keyframe before:Last, skip ahead 2 frames and move it just the tiniest bit left of center. I set it to 953. It’s just barely to the left. Only about 7 pixels in the example below. That’s the whole effect! I usually do a few things to make it easier to copy from one transition to the next. First, add a layer marker at the transition point, then trim the layer to only the keyframes duration. These adjustments let you easily duplicate the layer and move it to another transition. You can use the layer marker to line it up, and it will work perfectly! It’s very easy to apply to other transitions:Here’s a look at it in action:One last thing you can do to enhance the effect is to add sound effects. PremiumBeat has several slide style sound effects that will work for this transition. I trimmed the sound effect to just the first click:You can also combine this effect with borders! Check out an example here.
The Tree Authority (TA) on Wednesday deferred the proposal to remove 2,702 trees for the Metro car shed in Aarey Colony. The authority has asked for details related to the rehabilitation of tribals, as well as litigation on the issue. The Shiv Sena and Congress are still vociferously opposed to the proposal.Work on the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro line is under way, but the proposal to build a car shed inside Aarey Colony — especially the removal of trees — has met with stiff resistance from the very beginning. The protesters have been supported by Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray and Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar in the past. When the proposal was tabled before the Tree Authority earlier this month, members demanded a site visit, which took place on Tuesday. On both occasions, the Shiv Sena expressed its opposition to the car shed.Following the visit, the proposal was placed before the Tree Authority on Wednesday, but was sent back to the administration with queries. The administration will now have to table it with all the information demanded. Shiv Sena leader Yashwant Jadhav said, “There were alternatives of two other plots for the car shed. Why does Metro insist on Aarey Colony? We have received around 80,000 objections to the proposal. What are we going to do about those? Also, what about the rehabilitation of tribals in 27 hamlets? We want these answers.” The Shiv Sena has also demanded to know the status of two court cases in the matter.“In the 27 acres, trees have been cut on five acres without permission. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation should file a first information report against Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited,” said Ravi Raja, leader of the Opposition.Congress leader Milind Deora also tweeted, “The proposal from MMRCL to cut 2,703 trees at Aarey Colony for construction of Metro car shed was discussed in the BMC’s Tree Authority today. I informed Leader of Opposition @ravirajaINC that @INCIndia must oppose this proposal. Mumbai’s environment comes first!”
