Keeping pets safe during these extremely cold conditions

Dogs and cats feel the cold just as much as humans. When you are getting ready to leave, be sure to knock on your car’s hood loud enough for a feral cat to hear. Feral cats often find shelter inside and underneath cars.Huron Humane Society Manager Coty Griggs has one key rule for pet owners… if it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for your pets.“Anytime it’s winter, I think you should bring in your dogs or cats if they are indoor or outdoor, but if they are strictly an outdoor dog, I wouldn’t let them out there if it’s below freezing,” said Griggs. “I find that just too cold for any animal.”Griggs also mentioned that larger outdoor dog’s homes are not always better because wind and snow can get inside. When taking your dog out, put some socks on them or a sweater and don’t keep them out too long.Another important note, don’t leave antifreeze out. Dogs and cats are naturally attracted to the substance which can be deadly. If you spill antifreeze, please dilute it so your pets don’t consume.AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThis Tags: antifreeze, cats, Cold conditions, Dogs, Huron Humane Society, subzero temperatureContinue ReadingPrevious Onaway man charged with sexual assault of a 12-year-oldNext Posen loses a jewel in Tuesday’s firelast_img read more
