Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s wife, Amruta, was trolled on social media after addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the ‘father of the country’ while wishing him on his 69th birthday on Monday. Ms. Fadnavis’s comparison of the Prime Minister with the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi did not go down well with Twitterati. “Wishing the Father of our Country @narendramodi ji a very Happy Birthday — who inspires us to work relentlessly towards the betterment of society (sic),” she tweeted, and social media was quick to remind her who the Father of the Nation was.Last year, Ms. Fadnavis had courted controversy by climbing on the edge of India’s first domestic cruise Angria to take a selfie. She was filmed being cautioned by security personnel, after she crossed the Mumbai-Goa ship’s safety range.Ms. Fadnavis profiles herself on Twitter as ‘Banker, Playback Singer, Social Worker, Homemaker.’ The Opposition took the opportunity to hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying the tweet was indicative of Mr. Modi’s ultimate intention of replacing Mahatma Gandhi as the Father of the Nation. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the ultimate aim of replacing Gandhiji as Father of the Nation. He even had his picture replace that of Gandhiji on the annual calendar of Khadi institutions. Ms. Fadnavis’s tweet is an indication of this evil ambition, which the people of this country will not accept,” said the Nationalist Congress Party’s Mumbai chief, Nawab Malik.

The Central government on Friday accepted Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh government’s recommendation to hand over the Tarn Taran blast case to the National Investigation Agency, in view of its national and international ramifications and suspected links of the accused with the Pakistan-backed Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).A communique to this effect has been received by the Chief Secretary and DGP Punjab, according to an official spokesperson. The case registered under Section 304 IPC and various sections of the Explosive Substances Act related to a powerful explosion that took place in a vacant plot on the outskirts of village Pandori Gola in Tarn Taran district. Two persons were killed and another was injured in the blast, which took place when the victims were reportedly digging a pit to retrieve a dumped explosive consignment, which they mishandled. The Punjab police had arrested eight members of the Pakistan-backed module, whose interrogations led to a complex web of conspiracy and attacks by the group, including an aborted attack on a high-value target in 2016.Module leaderThe spokesperson said seven others, including the alleged module leader and main conspirator Bikramjit Singh alias Granthi, who is believed to be in Austria, are still absconding. “A Granthi by profession and a follower of Damdami Taksal, Bikramjit planned to target socio-religious places, politicians, Hindu leaders and Sikh preachers with the help of locally made crude bombs,” said the spokesperson.

Manuel Carrillo III/Roadshow One of the fringe benefits of having an electric car is that for the most part, they require much less maintenance than a comparable vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine. Tesla is taking advantage of this after crunching the data on the last few years of service and vehicle data by moving away from a recommended yearly service program to one that only requires vehicles to come in when parts need to be replaced. This probably sounds crazy if you’ve never spent a significant amount of time with an electric vehicle, but think about it like this: What are the most common service items on your ICE-powered car? Oil changes, brakes and tires. Add in things like accessory belts and timing belts that degrade with use and heat and all of a sudden you have a pretty full maintenance schedule. An EV doesn’t have engine oil to change, nor do the motors produce the same kind of heat that gasoline or diesel-powered engines do. Parts aren’t subjected to the same kind of temperature extremes. With brakes, many EV drivers use their vehicles with high levels of regenerative braking. This uses the drivetrain to slow the car and recharge the battery and saves significant wear on the vehicle’s braking components. Brake fluid, however, will still be checked every two years for water contamination.Add in the fact that Teslas are internet-connected and have robust remote diagnostic capabilities and a yearly check-up seems even less necessary. Tesla representatives are quick to point out that this shift in service methodology has nothing to do with a Tesla’s warranty, and vehicles that need service can get it.Tesla will stop pushing its prepaid maintenance plans for customers, but will still honor the plans that have been sold. It seems likely that the “as-necessary” service system will end up being cheaper than a prepaid plan for customers anyway.
