SILVER LAKE TRAGEDY Town Manager Responds Police Offer Free Counseling Town Beach

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — The Town of Wilmington continues to cope with the drowning death of a 19-year-old in Silver Lake on Wednesday night.Town Manager Responds“This young man’s drowning is an incredibly tragic incident,” Wilmington Town Manager Jeff Hull told Wilmington Apple. “Our deepest condolences and our thoughts and prayers are extended to his family and friends.”“Many thanks go out to the entire rescue team – Police, Fire and Dispatch personnel all worked tirelessly in an effort to save this young man,” continued Hull. “Additionally, I would like to extend my acknowledgement and sincere ‘thank you’ to the many residents around Silver Lake who assisted the rescue team by identifying the swimmer’s location and supporting this valiant effort.Police Department Responds“Thank you to all community members, families, and first responders who assisted in efforts to help the young man who passed away at Silver Lake,” Wilmington Police said in a statement. “We understand this is a difficult time for many and would like to offer emotional support for those seeking those services.”The Police Department offered free counseling to the witnesses, bystanders and beachgoers involved in Wednesday’s tragedy at the Public Safety Building on Thursday night.The Police Department also plans to offer free counseling to the members of the community at large, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, September 4, form 3:30pm to 7pm, at the Public Safety Building.“Counselors will be available for one-on-one private conservations about coping, witnessing a trauma, and how to hold age appropriate conversations with young children,” reads the statement. “If you would like to speak to someone privately or cannot make [Tuesday night], please reach out to WPD Social Worker Samantha Reif at 978-658-5071.”The Police offered the following resources from the Riverside Trauma Center:Practicing Self-Care After Traumatic EventsTalking With Your Children About Traumatic EventsThings To Think About And How To Care For Yourself During Times Of Disaster/High StressSilver Lake ClosedAccording to police, the Town Beach at Silver Lake will remain closed until Saturday morning.Lowell Sun ReportKori Tuitt, of the Lowell Sun, interviews Town Manager Jeff Hull, Recreation Director Karen Campbell, and Police Chief Michael Begonis about Wednesday’s fatal drowning for today’s paper.
