If Martell is eligible this fall, he could be the ‘Canes starter in Week 1.One of the major factors in Miami’s favor when it came to landing Martell was the fact that two of his Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman teammates were already in the program. Tight end Brevin Jordan is entering his sophomore year at The U, while safety Bubba Bolden just transferred in from USC.Now, it looks like Martell is trying to convince another one of his buddies to join him in Coral Gables. This particular player–former UCLA five-star linebacker Jaelan Phillips–was the top prospect in the nation two years ago.Martell tweeted tonight that Phillips is visiting Miami this coming weekend.“Just got back from my adventure in the portal and came back with @JJPhillips15 visiting this weekend!” he wrote.Just got back from my adventure in the portal and came back with @JJPhillips15 visiting this weekend! ??? pic.twitter.com/L3OIziufNL— TATE MARTELL (@TheTateMartell) January 21, 2019Phillips left the Bruins in December in what was reportedly an injury-related departure. Earlier this month, it was reported that he was considering USC and Stanford. The No. 1 overall recruit in the 2017 cycle, Phillips played in only 10 games in two seasons at UCLA due to injuries.
