Britain’s most wanted conman Mark Acklom is on the run under a new identity.The fraudster, who conned one woman out of £850,000, is currently evading capture under the new alias Marc Long.The 44-year-old is believed to be hiding with his wife, Maria Yolanda Ros Rodriguez, 47, who may be using the names Maria Long, Yolianda Ross or Mary Moss.The serial conman is the subject of a European Arrest Warrant.A passport in the name of Marc Long, which is valid for another six years, was used to get a Swiss residency permit after he fled the UK, according to Sky News.The trail has now led authorities to Switzerland where he has been renting an apartment in Zurich, though it is not clear if he still keeps the apartment. Acklom is known to have used various names over the yearsCredit:SWNS They met when the former public schoolboy walked into her boutique in Gloucestershire to buy a jacket and began chatting her up.Avon and Somerset police then put out an appeal. Detective Inspector Adam Bunting said: “Mark Acklom is a convincing fraudster and we’re working hard to locate him as soon as possible.”We believe he’ll be with his wife, Maria Rodriguez, and their two young daughters.” It is also understood that he is known for a number of other offences.Detective Inspector Adam Bunting, of Avon and Somerset Police, said: “There could be more charges. We are still investigating a number of incidents and reports to do with Mark Acklom and his activities in the Bath and Bristol areas going back to 2012 and 2013.”Acklom is an accomplished scammer, and first received a custodial sentence for his actions at age 16, in 1991, when he received a four-year sentence for a £466,000 mortgage fraud after he posed as a City stockbroker.He also spent £11,000 after stealing his father’s credit card, swindled a former teacher out of £13,000 and ran up a £34,000 bill with a private charter jet company. Acklom is known to have used various names over the years in an attempt to stay one step ahead of authorities.He became known after it was alleged that he fleeced a divorcee out of £850,000 in life savings in a romance scam.He reportedly left Carolyn Woods financially and emotionally devastated after promising to marry her, after reportedly posing as an MI6 agent and convincing her into “lending” him her savings after a year-long courtship in Bath, Somerset.
